The original 6260 was a phone with the flip and the first S60 I have ever owned. The new 6260 is a slider and a S40 device. Where did all go wrong?
To be honest, both phones have little in common. The latest slide in 6260 is very similar to one the 6220 Classic and 6210 Navigator, with a remarkable piece of the puzzle: the Symbian OS. It 'a surprise given the phone a lot of power packed features, like a 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss dual LED flash/autofocus/15 fps VGA video, GPS integrated A-GPS, WLAN, HSPA, 6 hours of battery on GSM, TV-out, 8 GB microSD support and Bluetooth 2.1 A2DP. Wow, is a mouthful.
There are also onboard stereo speakers, an interesting addition, given the slide in 6260 is only a poor 2.5 mm audio jack. And the battery can support up to 30 hours of music listening. Seriously, if you're going to go this far, why not just spend the extra 50 cents for the pop of 3.5 mm at a port?
It seems that the Navi-wheel is back to being resurrected as "the 360th-Navi key."
The price: 299 euros ($ 384 USD) is not subsidized, which is right on mid-range territory.
The Nokia 6260 Slide will begin shipping in the first quarter of 2009.
